For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. (1 Corinthians 1:18)
For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom, but we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness; but unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God. (1 Cor 1:22-24)
But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God has chosen the weak things of the world to confound the mighty; and base things of the world, and things which are despised, has God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: That no flesh should glory in his presence: But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification and redemption. (1 Corinthian 1:27-31)
We are in the age of individualism, where there are some much emphasis on personal wisdom and strength, self achievement. The above Bible verse once again reminds us that God has not chosen us because of our personal merits. Quite contrary, often God chose one who are weak, base and foolish in the eyes of world. "That no flesh should glory in HIS present."
