Sermon against Homosexuality

I have heard an insightful and very informative sermon by Rev Charles Seet at Live BP church. His sermon was about “That which is against nature”

Here are key points summarized from his sermon.

Sin has caused us:
to change the knowledge about God;
to change the worship to God;
to change the gift of God.

In particular case of homosexuality, our society has changed the attitude toward it over the times:

Before 1967 it was widely regarded as a crime called sodomy; Sigmund Freud reduced it to a morally neutral mental illness; by the 70s and 80s, it was attributed to environmental conditioning. Later on it became an alternative lifestyle. Today it is advocated as a preferred way of life to provide the highest form of loving relationship and the best means of population control. Many famous people publicly confess that they are homosexuals, giving it a new respectful image. Within last seven years, the same sex marriage have been legalized in five countries and recognized in other three.

What happens in Singapore:

There is a growing gay community in Singapore. The latest forum discuss by Tanjong Pagar GRC MP Baey Yam Keng said if it comes to a vote in Parliament, he would say 'yes' to doing away with the law which makes it illegal for men to have sex with other men.
He was joined by Nominated MP Siew Kum Hong who had previously made public his opposition to Section 377A of the Penal Code which bans homosexual sex.

What causes homosexuality?

Many have said that they are homosexuals is because they are made of. It is due to inborn genetic traits that one cannot be held responsible for. There was even a scientific paper published in 1993 by Simon LyVay and Dean H. Hamer who claimed the discovery of a “gay gene”. It is now known today that homosexual is a socially learned response. When a man claims to be a homosexual, he is a man with heterosexuality but with homosexual problems. He is responsible for giving expression to his sinful nature instead of choosing to subdue it.

Homosexuality is a Sin

It violates God’s design in marriage (Gen 1:27.28)
It undermines the basic unit of society: the family (Exodus 20:12)
It is unnatural and an abomination to God (Romans 1:26-27; Leviticus 18:22; 20:13)
It brought God’s judgement upon Sodom and Gomorrah (Gen 19:4-5; Jude 7)
It is condemned by the law of God (1Tim 1:8-10)
It excludes those who indulge in it from God’s kingdom (1Cor 6:9-10)

The hope of homosexuals

Homosexual is only one of human sins. If they are willing to repent and turn to Christ for salvation, there is always hope in Christ Jesus who had given his life for sinners like you and me.

With Christ, there is endless hope and without Christ, there is hopeless end.
